Best Room for Roman Shades

Which rooms do Roman shades look best in? The short answer is all of them! The large selection of patterns and fabrics available in the Vignette® Modern Roman Shades line means you can create the ideal Roman shade for any room in your home. The only caveat to this is that you’ll want to avoid using certain fabrics in your kitchen and bathrooms.

Humidity can cause dust and mold to accumulate, and kitchen cooking odors and grease can damage your shades. Fabrics such as silk or taffeta will display moisture damage more than other materials.

In your kitchen and bathroom, you should go with a fabric that is easy to clean frequently, such as cotton or a cotton blend. If you have your heart set on a delicate fabric in a risky room, large prints will help to conceal moisture damage and stains.

Choosing a Liner

Just as UV rays can damage your skin, they can also harm your window treatments and items inside your home. Your Roman shades may look amazing from the inside, but the side facing the street can be faded and discolored. A liner helps to protect your shade and provides structural stability. A blackout liner will not fade as easily or quickly as a colored liner.

Vignette® Modern Roman Shades are available in flat and full-fold styles. Light and medium-weight fabrics will provide crisp folds, while materials like pure wool result in large, neat folds. The thicker the fabric, the more insulation your shade will provide. You can also choose between a Rolling Style and Stacking Style. A Rolling Style shade is available in 4” full fold and 6” flat fold and rolls up neatly into a headrail. For shallow mounting depths, the Stacking Style is available in a 4” flat fold, and the shade stacks neatly beneath a low-profile headrail.

Selecting the Color

Selecting the color of your shades can be the most challenging step of the design process. Going with colors that contrast the existing colors in a room is one of the most simple ways to ensure your shades will blend well in the room. Another tip is to go with a lighter fabric with accent tapes in a heavy fabric. You’ll have a shade that looks sophisticated and stylish without being too heavy. You can also use a Roman shade to add a fun pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic room.
