Every shade uses Hunter Douglas Beaded Loop control, which raises and lowers the fabric smoothly, without the jerking you sometimes get with a basic pull chain. Alustra® Woven Textures® Roller Shades trade the more casual look of a standard roller shade for something closer to woven art. The fabrics are globally sourced and include exclusive designs by textile designer Lori Weitzner, giving the collection a more refined, textural quality than most roller shade lines.

Hardware comes in a range of sleek metallic finishes, with a tailored valance or front-rolling fabric option that keeps the fabric clear of handles and window cranks, rounding out a shade meant to be looked at as much as looked through.

Alustra® Architectural Roller Shades retain the clean profile of a roller shade while adding fabric-covered, contoured battens for a more dimensional, tailored look, without the stacking or exposed rear cords of a traditional shade.

The exclusive, globally sourced fabrics match the refined quality of Alustra® Woven Textures®, with a construction designed more for architectural interest than for texture. Hardware and finishes are available in sleek metallic options, and an optional Kickback™ feature provides a tighter, more finished fit at the window.

Designer Banded Shades layer alternating sheer and solid fabric bands into a single shade, sometimes called a zebra shade for its striped look. Align the solid bands for soft, filtered light, or shift them to overlap the sheer sections for more privacy, all in one continuous motion rather than stacking two separate treatments.

Geometric patterns and color options give this collection a more contemporary edge than a standard roller shade, and a fabric-covered headrail keeps the finished look clean. Insolroll® manufactures solar screen fabrics in a range of openness percentages, allowing us to control how much heat, glare, and natural light enter each window. Instead of limiting you to a few preset choices, we can select a fabric based on the window's sun exposure, the room's needs, and the level of outward visibility you want to maintain.

We often recommend Insolroll® for heat-blocking window treatments in homes where reducing sun exposure is important, but preserving a view of the street or ocean matters just as much. Insolroll® also manufactures blackout and translucent fabrics, which we can pair with a solar screen in a dual-shade system to provide daytime glare and heat control, along with greater privacy and light control at night.

Roller and solar shades look similar at a glance because both use a single fabric that rolls up into a headrail, but they're built to solve different problems.

A roller shade uses a solid or semi-opaque fabric, making it the better choice when privacy or full light-blocking is the priority, such as a bedroom or bathroom window. A solar shade uses a woven mesh fabric instead, which blocks UV rays and heat while still letting you see through it, making it a better fit for a living room, a lanai-facing window, or any spot where the view matters as much as light control.

Some homeowners pick one or the other; others choose both, using a Duolite® or Dual Roller setup to combine a solar fabric for daytime glare control with a blackout roller fabric for nighttime privacy in a single window treatment. Hunter Douglas shades pair with PowerView® Automation, which schedules your shades to move with the sun, responds to a remote or an app, or joins other shades in the house in a single routine.
